PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 8, 2014) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golf duo of Leina Kim (Jr., Saipan, CNMI) and Julie Sanchez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) both posted 3-over scores of 74 to sit in a three-way tie for first place after day one of the 2014 Samuel Proal Insurance Lady Wolf Pack Invitational at Pueblo Country Club. As a team, the ThunderWolves posted an overall team score of 324. The Pack's +40 tally places them in fourth place, four shots behind overall leader University of Colorado Colorado Springs (+36, 320).
Kim registered a trio of birdies, including a three on the par-4 18th hole to pull into a first-place tie atop the leader board. Sanchez matched Kim's three birdies with a trio of her own. The senior closed the round with pars on the last two holes to finish tied for first in the 81-player field.
Rounding out play for the Pack was Samantha Geisick (Fr., Greely, Colo.) in a tie for 43rd with a score of 86. Natasha Navarro (So., San Antonio, Texas) posted a final tally of 90 to finish in a tie for 51st and Megan McCutcheon (Fr., Monument, Colo.) concluded play in a tie for 64th with a final score of 96.
Wayland Baptist University's Hannah Duvall posted a 3-over 74, matching Kim and Sanchez's scores. Andrea Ballou and Alex Darwin of UCCS round out the top five with matching 5-over scores of 76.
In the team field, six schools are within nine shots of the lead. Following UCCS are Adams State (+38, 322), Wayland Baptist (+39, 323), CSU-Pueblo and Lewis University (+41, 325).
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes. Play gets under way at Pueblo Country Club at 9:00 a.m.
