AUSTIN, Tex. – (September 4, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team opened its 2014 season campaign on the road in Austin, Texas, on Thursday morning against No. 5 St. Edward's University. The ThunderWolves kept the game throughout the contest, but fell to the Hilltoppers, 2-0.
The Hilltopper's scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute off a header, ten yards from goal by Duffie Whytneigh.
Jenn Rucker (Sr., Renton, Wash.) got the starting nod in goal for the Pack and was solid. Rucker faced eight shots, notched two saves and allowed one goal in eight shots in the first half.
Head coach Paul Regrutto made a change in goal after halftime, sending Kim Smith (R-So., Glendale, Ariz.) in for her first playing time of the season. The Pack remained tough throughout the second half, keeping the strong St. Edward's offensive attack at bay until the 86th minute, when Whytneigh tallied her second marker of the contest.
During her 45 minutes of play, Smith made three saves on 12 shots faced.
The ThunderWolves were outshot 20-5 in the game, including a 7-3 deficit in shots on goal.
Kacie Licata (So., Upland, Calif.) led the ThunderWolves with two shots in the game.
The Pack (0-1) will continue their Texas trip and travel to San Antonio for a Friday night contest against St. Mary's University, that game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (CST) start.
