Kim sets RMAC tournament record, wins title at Colorado Christian Invitational

LITTLETON, Colo. (September 16, 2014) ~ Just two weekends into the 2014-15 golf season, Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golf junior Leina Kim (Saipan, CNMI) is already playing in midseason form. Kim set a new Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament record, posting an overall score of 4-under par 140 to win the Colorado Christian Invitational on Tuesday morning at Raccoon Creek Golf Course.

CSU-Pueblo tallied a team score of +57 (633) to finish in third place in the first RMAC tournament of the season. The ThunderWolves ended up 13 shots behind first place Metro State University of Denver (+39, 615) and five shots behind second place finisher Regis University (+52, 628).

A day after breaking her own RMAC single-round record with a 5-under 67 on Monday, Kim notched the second best round on Tuesday with a 1-over 73 to conclude the tournament at 4-under par 140. Kim's record-setting score breaks her own tournament record of 142, which she set last season at the RMAC #1 Tournament on Sept. 7-8 at Desert Hawk Golf Course in Pueblo West, Colo. Kim's tournament victory comes just one week after taking home the title at the Samuel Proal Insurance Lady Wolf Pack Invitational.

Julie Sanchez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) bounced back from a 10-over 82 score on day one to post the top mark on day two with an even-par tally of 72. For the tournament, Sanchez finished in a tie for fifth with a score of 154. Samantha Geisick (Fr., Greely, Colo.) recorded her lowest round of the season with a second-round mark of 83 to finish in a tie for 33rd at +23 (167). Megan McCutcheon (Fr., Monument, Colo.) finished the tournament in a tie for 45th place with a 36-hole total of +28 (172). Natasha Navarro (So., San Antonio, Texas) improved on her first-round score by two strokes on Tuesday, concluding the tournament at +34 (178).

The ThunderWolves continue play next week with an appearance in the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate tournament at Estrella Mountain Ranch in Goodyear, Ariz.
