USAF ACADEMY, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Apr. 5, 2014) — The Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves won both the 4X200 and 4X400-meter relays and took second in the 4X100-meter, the highlights of the day on Saturday at the Air Force Relays.
The Pack's 4X400-meter quartet of Andrea Tuck (So., Canon City, Colo.), Sidney Riley (So., Florissant, Colo.), Maya Rugg (Sr., Eagar, Ariz.) and Alex Wendt (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was clocked in 3 minutes, 58.64 seconds, one of the fastest times in school history, to win the event by 3.49 seconds.
Meanwhile, the quartet of Tiana Reed (R-Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Riley, Rugg and Wendt posted a 4.20-second win in the rarely held 4X200-meter relay, posting a time of 1:44.70.
The 4X100-meter team of Reed, Wendt, Rugg and Kyanah Ramos (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) finished in 48.41 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the individual events, hurdlers Veronica Burney (Fr., Yoder, Colo.) and Tuck continued to shine. Both posted season-best times over 100 meters as Burney took second in 14.93 seconds while Tuck took third in 15.39.
Tuck also took second at the 400-meter distance finishing in 1:06.59 while Burney finished fourth in 1:07.63.
Taylor Bond (Fr., Peyton, Colo.) also took fourth in her 3,000-meter race with a time of 11:54.53.
In the field, Haley Gansz (So., Raton, N.M.) and Valeria Miranda (So., Lakewood, Colo.) took fourth and fifth in the shot put while Erica Wuenschel (So., Leadville, Colo.) improved upon her season best in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches) to take seventh. Samantha Bellah (So., Pueblo, Colo.) also matched her season-best in the pole vault (3.20 meters, 10'6") to finish sixth.
"It was a solid day for us despite not being a good track weather day," first-year ThunderWolf Head Coach Matt Morris said.
"We'll starting letting the leash off a little bit over the next couple weeks in Texas and California," Morris continued about the Pack's upcoming plans which will see them compete at West Texas A&M next Saturday (Mar. 12) before venturing to another pair of warm-weeather meets in southern California on Easter weekend.
