ThunderWolves get first loss of the season on the road against NMHU

Las Vegas, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com – Sept. 18, 2013) The CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team is no longer undefeated after a 1-0 loss to New Mexico Highlands University Wednesday night.

With the loss the Pack move to 3-1 on the season, still giving the women their best start since 2004 when they went five games without a loss.
The match up against the NMHU Cowgirls was the ThunderWolves first conference game of the year and the first opportunity to test their skill on the road, having played and won all three of their games this season at home.

With an uneventful first half, the scoreboard remained at zero for both sides until late in the match. The Cowgirls maintained possesion for most of the game, forcing the Pack to play defensively.

At the 70 minute mark, NMHU forward Andrea Duke launched the ball from 25 yards out and got one past CSU-Pueblo goal keeper Savannah Thompson (Sr., Upland, Calif.), putting the Cowgirls up 1-0 with 19:45 left on the clock.

Thompson, arguably one of the best keepers in the RMAC, has given up only two scores in the past four games, with 29 saves and a total of 360 minutes of playing time.
The Pack tried to rally but couldn't get the score in time.  The Cowgirls outshot the ThunderWolves 26-2, keeping Thompson busy at the net, giving her nine saves on the night.

NMHU came into the game with a 2-0-2 record and tied for seventh in the RMAC weekly standings.  CSU-Pueblo is currently tied for third.  This was the first conference game of the season for both teams.

CSU-Pueblo will travel to Golden, Colo. to face the Colorado School of Mines on Friday. The Orediggers are currently ranked second in the RMAC standings, with a record of 3-0-1.  This will be the ThunderWolves hardest match up to date.

Kickoff is at 5pm. Friday afternoon, both live stats and video will be available.
