PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 6, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo opened up its largest first-round lead in school history Saturday, leading by 20 strokes after the opening round of the Southwest Motors Lady ThunderWolf Invitational.
Playing at the Pueblo Country Club, the field was victimized by the course's extremely fast greens as nobody in the field really had a positive short game to speak of. But the ThunderWolves were stellar in their approaches to each hole, and as a result, shot a team 316 as the top three individuals from the first round were all ThunderWolves.
Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI) led the field with a 5-over-par 77 after one round, all despite missing key puts on eagle tries throughout the day. She was joined in the sub-80 range by teammates Domi Dinallo (Jr., Elephant Butte, N.M.), who shot a 6-over 78, and Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.), who finished the first round with a 7-over 79. Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) rounded out the Pack's scoring foursome with a 10-over-par 82, good enough for a fifth-place tie.
CSU-Pueblo will try to wrap up its third tournament victory of the season Sunday when the tournament concludes.
