Kim falls on playoff hole as Pack climbs to 8th

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - March 19, 2013)Leina Kim (Saipan, CNMI) missed out on her first career tournament win Tuesday after going to a second playoff hole to determine a champion at the Midwestern State Invitational.

Kim shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish the tournament with a 2-over-par 146, needing a playoff with Oklahoma Christian's Anna Arrese Cortadel to determine a champion.  After each reached par on the first playoff pole, a bogey by Kim on the second playoff hole proved to be the difference.

Her performance headlined a much-improved performance across the board for the ThunderWolves as four out of five Pack golfers cut strokes from the first to second round, helping the ThunderWolves to shoot a 320 as a team and move up from 10th place to 8th in the final standings.

Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.), Domi Dinallo (Jr., Elephant Butte, N.M.) and Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.) each cut four strokes, and Katie Maglia (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) cut nine strokes from the first to second rounds.  The result was a cumulative 10-stroke cut in the team scores from the first to second rounds.

CSU-Pueblo's 320 in the second round was the fifth-best team score of the 18 teams participating in the event, helping it to climb up the rankings.  CSU-Pueblo finish of 8th is important as the ThunderWolves are trying to prove it deserves an NCAA Division II Super Regional Berth this season.  Despite playing the best golf in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season, the ThunderWolves must out-rank schools from Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico to get a Super Regional Berth.

CSU-Pueblo will take two weeks off before heading to Litchfield Park, Ariz. for the Grand Canyon Invitational April 1 and 2.
