Kim leads after one round, Pack in 10th

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - March 18, 2013)Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI) set a school record for lowest individual round with an even-par 72 to lead the field of 97 at the Midwestern State Invitational.

As a team, though, CSU-Pueblo sat in 10th in an extremely competitive field despite posting scores consistently on par with their typical showings, shooting a first-round 330 (42-over-par).

Kim shot a 38 on the front nine to come through with a stellar 34, or 2-under-par, on the back nine.  Her nine-hole total was the best of any competitor in the field.

Aside from Kim's lights-out performance, though, the rest of the ThunderWolves struggled, all shooting 85 or over.

The Pack's 10th place showing as a team is vital as the Pack tries to play its way into the top ten in a very competive NCAA Division II South Central Region, arguably the nation's toughest region in women's golf.  After playing some of the best golf in the region last year when it was joined with teams in the upper midwest, CSU-Pueblo, despite posting much better scores this season, is fighting for its postseason lives as it competes with the Texas area schools in a new region.

The final round of the Midwestern State Invitational concludes Tuesday.
