Breit, Sanchez lead Pack to dominant win

ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 17, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo won its second straight RMAC tournament Monday, besting Western New Mexico by 11 strokes at the Grizzly Invitational in Alamosa as Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) took home her first individual title.

As has been the theme for the ThunderWolves, records fell again Monday.  This time, Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.) carded a 1-over-par 73, tied for the best single round in school history (set just a week ago by Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI)).  Her huge round allowed her to climb all the way up the charts to force another first in CSU-Pueblo history - an all CSU-Pueblo playoff for the individual title.

Breit, who shot a 3-over-par 75 Monday, identical to her first-round 75, was caught by Sanchez, whose 73 was four strokes better than her first-round 77.  Breit would win the all-ThunderWolf playoff hole as both clinched school records for best two-round score with a 6-over-par 150.

The ThunderWolves' total two-round team score of 617, just 41-over-par for two rounds, also set a school record.

The tournament win in the first RMAC tournament of the season is the Pack's second straight in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament, dating back to last season.  CSU-Pueblo won the RMAC Championship tournament last spring as the 2011-12 season concluded.

CSU-Pueblo will remain on the RMAC tournament circuit as it travels to Denver for the second RMAC tournament of the season, this time at Fox Hollow Golf Course next Monday and Tuesday.
