Rangers prevail at home against Pack

DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sep. 16, 2012) - The CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team continued their disappointing start to conference play falling, 2-0, to Regis University.

The Pack had a nother solid defensive performance, but weren't able to counter a strong offensive effort by the Rangers and one of the conferences top players, Meghan Stuart. Stuart set up the first goal of the game with her pass to Sidny Otto, who finished for her first goal of her career.

Offensively, the Pack did a good job of creating their own opportunities. They rarely wasted any chances and were accurate with their shots forcing Ranger goalkeeper, Brianna Randall, to make nine saves.

Amanda Jorgensen (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) was one of the more dangerous Pack players, finishing with four shots. Morgan Purkey (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Tamra Nee (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) both made the most of their opportunities finishing the game with two shots a piece.

The Rangers would add one more goal early in the second half when at 49:00, Sade Akindele added her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Otto.

Behind goalkeeper Savannah Thompson (Jr., Upland, Calif.), the defense was solid in holding a strong offensive team to limited opportunities. Thompson finished the game with 10 saves, her fourth double-digit save effort in five games.

The Pack will be back on the pitch Friday at 4:30 p.m. when they play host to Colorado Christian at the Rawlings Soccer Complex.
