BILLINGS, Mont. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 23, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo held Notre Dame de Namur to just eight first half points, showing a dominant defensive effort in claiming a 59-38 win at the Montana State-Billings Classic Friday.
Despite shooting just 38 percent from the floor in the first half, CSU-Pueblo left the Argos with little hope for mounting an offensive explosion. Notre Dame de Namur shot just 14 percent in the first half, remarkably going 4-for-29 on two-point field goal attempts, thanks in large part to the Pack's tenacious defense.
CSU-Pueblo registered three blocked shots and three steals in the first half, and out-rebounded the Argos by a huge margin, grabbing 27 boards to just 18 by Notre Dame de Namur. In the end, the Pack had out-boarded the Argos 51-33 and didn't allow a single player to score in double figures.
Offensively, it was senior Erica Hicks (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) that caught fire, scoring 14 in the first half and sinking two three-pointers, then upping the ante in the second half to drain three more treys, finishing with a game-high 23 points. She also achieved a career-high in assists, leading the team with five dishes.
CSU-Pueblo, now 3-0 to start the 2012-13 campaign, will face Dixie State Saturday to close out its four-game tournament slate.
