Taylor Proctor Named Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

Proctor Spent Last Six Seasons at Fellow RMAC Member MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 16, 2025) – Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball coach Tommie Johnson has announced the hiring of longtime MSU Denver assistant coach Taylor Proctor as a new assistant coach for the ThunderWolves' women's basketball program.

"I am super excited with the addition of Taylor Proctor as our new women's basketball assistant coach. She's a proven commodity in this field and in this league that has won and she'll help elevate our program from day one on campus," Johnson said.

Proctor has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach, including serving as the Associate Head Coach during the 2024-25 season, on the staff of former MSU Denver head coach Tanya Haave. Haave announced her retirement from her 25-year coaching career at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

"I'm incredibly honored and excited to join the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves. This program has a strong tradition of excellence, and I look forward to following the lead of Coach Johnson and contribute to the continued success of the program," Proctor said. "I'm passionate about supporting and developing our student-athletes both on and off the court and I can't wait to get started with this talented group."

In her time with the Roadrunners, Proctor specialized in post-player skill development, including mentoring one Honorable Mention All-American and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year in Allie Navarette. She also helped manage program operations, team logistics, served as the video coordinator and helped develop scouting reports and game strategies. She also helped organized team camps, elite camps and fall leagues.

During her time as an assistant coach at MSU Denver, she was a Tara VanDerveer Fellow during the 2021-22 season. The Tara VanDerveer Fellow received a grant from the Tara VanDerveer Fund for Advancement of Women in Coaching from the Women's Sports Foundation.

During her athletic career, Proctor was a multi-sport star who excelled in team handball and soccer in addition to her exploits on the basketball court.

A forward in basketball, Proctor ranked third on the all-time list at the Division I University of San Francisco, after scoring 1,785 points from 2012-13 through 2015-16. She was also second on the Dons' all-time rebounding list with 923.

But not only was Proctor a two-time All-West Coast Conference basketball player at San Francisco, she also used her final season of collegiate eligibility to play soccer in 2017 for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she earned All-RMAC first team honors as well as RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year and most valuable player of the RMAC tournament. She was previously the WCC basketball tournament MVP after leading San Francisco to the NCAA tournament in 2016.

In addition, she played left wing for Team USA in team handball, helping the team qualify for the 2011 Pan American Games before shifting her attention to basketball.

After earning San Francisco's Anne Dolan Female Athlete of the Year as a senior, Proctor signed a professional contract with KFUM Ostersund Basket in Sweden. She averaged 14.2 points and 7.6 rebounds before returning to the U.S. to complete her education at UCCS.

Proctor has served as a basketball trainer in several locations and was also a graduate assistant at UCCS.

At Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Proctor was an all-state honorable mention selection as a junior before missing her senior season due to injury.
