Jorgensen scores twice as Pack smacks Mavericks

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 26, 2012) - It's been a long road coming for the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team. The ThunderWolves have put in the hard work and never quit fighting that should be rewarded like the game Friday against Colorado Mesa in which the Pack defeated the Mavericks 2-0.

The first half began slow as both teams looked to adjust to cold weather and wind. Each team finished with five shots, but neither keeper was truly tested. The Pack looked to string some things together late in the first half as they started to gain possession and challenge the Mavericks defense.

Everything seemed to come together after the break as the Pack picked up where they left off, by dominating possession and creating offensive chances.

After numerous chances were put away by Mavericks goalkeeper Sarah Schnetzler, the Pack finally broke through beginning with the midfield play. The midfielders worked a ball to Alicia Irwin (Jr., North Richland Hills, Texas), who then found a streaking Amanda Jorgensen (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) with a through ball that she would finish with a finessed shot to the bottom right of the goal.

Jorgensen knew she found her groove as she received a loose ball in the box, that she would calmly tuck away for her second goal of the night.

The Mavericks sent a late rally at the Pack, but the defense stood tall behind goalkeeper Savannah Thompson (Jr., Upland, Calif.). Thompson would finish the match with eight saves to earn a clean sheet.

The Pack wraps up the season Sunday against New Mexico Highlands for senior day. Kick off is scheduled for noon as four seniors will be honored before the game.
