Pack downed by No. 22 Fort Lewis

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 21, 2012) - Looking to build on a string of fast starts and strong finishes, the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer took to the field to face No.22 Fort Lewis Sunday. The Skyhawks scored two second half goals to defeat the Pack 3-0.

The Pack had another strong start matching the Skyhawks, shot-for-shot, in a game that saw both teams get ample offensive chances. Unfortunately for the Pack, Fort Lewis got on the board first scoring off of a header set up by a corner kick.

Even with the early lead Skyhawk goalkeeper Amanda Raso stayed busy turning away numerous hard, driven shots by the Pack. Alicia Irwin (Jr., North Richland Hills, Texas) led the way finishing tied for the game-high of three shots. The balanced attack also saw four ThunderWolves finish the day with two shots.

The Pack continued to push forward in the second half in hopes of finding an equalizer. Fort Lewis was able to capitalize on a couple opportunities with a series of through balls that found streaking forwards.

A flurry of shots in the final two minutes by Alexis DeLaCruz (So., San Bernardino, Calif.) and Brittany Kliesen (So., Pueblo, Colo.) almost cut the deficit in favor of the Pack, but Raso stood tall to make two big saves and preserve the clean sheet.

The Pack closes out the season next weekend beginning Friday against Colorado Mesa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
