Pack earn second consecutive tie at Colorado Mesa

Villa's goal helps Pack earn tie

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 23, 2011) - Playing in their sixth overtime game of the year the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team managed to earn a 1-1 tie against Colorado Mesa to earn a point in the conference standings.

Savannah Thompson (So., Upland, Calif.) made 12 saves for the Pack as she saw the Mavericks fire off 26 shots her way.

The Mavericks lone goal came late in the first half on a cross from Kelci Crispe. Crispe's cross came with six seconds remaining in the half as she found Jackie Ramsey who beat Thompson to the right side.

The Pack did respond in the 73' when Esther Villa's (Jr., El Paso, Tex.) shot ricocheted off the top cross bar into the net beating Mavericks keeper Sarah Schnetzler. Villa's goal came from a pass distributed by Alexis DeLaCruz (Fr., San Bernardino, Calif.).

Villa provided the best opportunity for the Pack to get a come from behind win in overtime but her shot was turned away by Schnetzler. Thompson was solid in overtime saving three of the Mavericks shot to preserve the tie.

The Pack return home for their final two games of the season beginning Friday when they host New Mexico Highlands. The game has a 7 p.m. kick off scheduled at Rawlings Soccer Complex.
