PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 24,
2010) - The CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team fell 1-0 Friday
night against the Regis Rangers. The game featured the
second ranked team in the RMAC as well as the
ThunderWolves who were coming off a defeat against rival
UC-Colorado Springs.
The game was held scoreless until the 88th minute when Regis
struck through with a unassisted goal by Jordan Miller. Miller
found herself with an open look at goal and struck a shot past
the outreached arms of keeper Savannah Thompson (Fr.,
Upland, Calif.).
Thompson was the star of the game for the
ThunderWolves saving seven shots to keep the Rangers from ever
taking a commanding lead. The defense was also solid blocking
scoring attempts and putting pressure on Regis forwards.
The offense struggled to find any quality scoring chances
throughout the game and constantly battled against the wind in the
second half. The ThunderWolves ended the game with a total of seven
shots.
Katie Thiebaut (Sr.,
Pueblo, Colo) offered the best scoring opportunity in
the 62nd minute as she knifed through defenders only to have her
shot saved by Regis keeper Ellen Augsburger.
With the loss the ThunderWolves dropped to 2-1 in RMAC play and
3-4 overall. The Pack have a chance to redeem themselves Sunday as
they face Nebraska-Kearney at Rawlings Sports Complex. The game is
scheduled for noon with the men's soccer team facing Colorado
Christian in a doubleheader.
Sunday is also youth soccer day at Rawlings Sports Complex.
Kids 12 and under are free to the game with a guest appearance
by the Colorado Rapids mascot scheduled.
