ThunderWolves fall back to earth vs. Mines

Colorado Mines 31, CSU-Pueblo 7

CSU-Pueblo suffered a letdown Saturday when Colorado School of Mines dashed any memories of the Pack's big win last week over Chadron State, downing the ThunderWolves 31-7.

The loss drops the ThunderWolves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in RMAC play, while Mines jumps up to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in RMAC play.

One of the main keys of the game was the Orediggers' control of the line of scrimmage, giving quarterback David Pesek large amounts of time to throw, resulting in 327 passing yards by the Mines offense.

The ThunderWolves, meanwhile, had trouble getting started on offense, sputtering to just 196 total offensive yards.  Colin Clancy (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) was pressured all day, going 12-for-34 with two interceptions and no touchdowns.  He ran in the Pack's lone score in the fourth quarter.

The defense made some big plays but couldn't get the Orediggers off the field when it counted.  Despite a fourth interception by Chris Brown (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) and a career-high 12 tackles by Lee Meisner (So., Sterling, Colo.), the short and medium range pass came up aces for Orediggers.  That was most evident by tailback Jahre Cheeseman, a transfer from Virginia Tech who scored three TDs for Mines, including two on screen passes near the goal line.

The Pack will look to slough off this loss and rebound against arguably the toughest team in the RMAC, Nebraska-Kearney, which the Pack will take on next Saturday.
