Second half not kind to Pack in season opener

Washburn (KS) 4, CSU-Pueblo 1

Despite carrying a 1-1 tie into the break against Wasburn, the ThunderWolves gave up three second half goals to fall to the Lady Blues 4-1.

A penalty kick score by Kara Morton (Jr., Thornton, Colo.) made up a 1-0 disadvantage late in the first half, but the ThunderWolves couldn't make much happen in a down second half.

The defense broke down as keeper Jessica Stumpf (Jr., Baltimore, Md.) allowed three goals, the first coming ten minutes into the second frame.  The Lady Blues scored two more goals within a five minute time frame midway through the half, and the Pack's chances for a comeback were dashed.

Overall, the Pack was outshot 20-5.

The ThunderWolves will have a week to get over this season-opening loss when they host Division I New Mexico State Sept. 4.
