PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision against Regis Friday evening in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
With the setback, CSU Pueblo moves to 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in RMAC play, while Regis improves to 7-2 overall and remains unbeaten in conference action at 3-0.
Regis jumped out to an early advantage and scored all three of its goals during the opening 23 minutes. Andie Rylance opened the scoring in the ninth minute off an assist from Elsa Nolen before Brooke Castillo doubled the Rangers' lead just over two minutes later. Paula Igual added the third goal in the 23rd minute.
The ThunderWolves looked to respond and generated their first scoring opportunity in the 19th minute when Rianna Aguilar put a shot on frame that was turned away by Regis goalkeeper Maggie Payne. CSU Pueblo added another opportunity late in the half when Madi Reardon fired a shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but Payne again made the save.
CSU Pueblo went into halftime trailing 3-0 after recording three shots, including two on goal, and earning two corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes. The Pack defense settled in following Regis' early surge and kept the Rangers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.
The ThunderWolves held Regis scoreless throughout the second half but were unable to cut into the deficit. CSU Pueblo finished the night with three shots and two shots on goal, while Regis totaled 13 shots with five on target. The Rangers also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Aguilar, Reardon and Kenna Snyder accounted for CSU Pueblo's three shots, with Aguilar and Reardon putting their attempts on goal.
In goal, Peppi Niemi played the first 75:44 and made two saves before Ella Bulfer closed out the final 14:16 without allowing a goal.
