CSU-Pueblo 1, Mesa State 0
The Pack halted a seven game winless streak Sunday with a
stellar effort against Mesa State, shutting out the Mavericks 1-0
at Rawlings Field.
Led by an outstanding game in goal by Randi Walters (Sr.,
Oxnard, Calif.), the Pack faced 18 shots by the Mavericks
with Walters making saves on 10, regaining an authority inside the
18 that the team had been missing as of late.
Offensively, CSU-Pueblo didn't get as many goal-scoring
opportunities as it had in its recent games, only taking 12 shots
and placing just three on goal. But the big goal came in the
first period when Candice Duffy (Sr.,
Idaho Falls, Idaho) continued her steep rise after a slow
start to the season, netting her third goal of the season
from a feed by Leanne Carberry
(Jr., Idledale, Colo.) in the 29th minute to give the Pack
a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish.
CSU-Pueblo improves to 4-10-2 with the win and 3-8-1 in
conference play. The Pack currently finds itself just five
points behind Mesa State in the RMAC standings for the final
playoff spot.
CSU-Pueblo will face a huge game against Colorado School of
Mines Friday before returning home for the final home game of the
season vs. Colorado Christian next Sunday.
