UC-Colorado Springs 1, CSU-Pueblo 0
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An errant turnover on the Pack's
defensive end was enough to undo a chance at a win over UCCS
Wednesday as CSU-Pueblo fell 1-0 in the season's lone meeting with
the Mountain Lions.
UCCS converted a turnover deep in the CSU-Pueblo end into a goal
15 minutes into the match, leaving the ThunderWolves to play
catchup for the remainder of the game. CSU-Pueblo was largely
effective offensively, outshooting UCCS 16-15 as each got 10 shots
on goal. But the Pack had trouble finishing, as no shots
found the back of the net.
CSU-Pueblo's loss leaves the Pack in practically irreparable
disadvantage in the "Steel and Silver Series," the all-sports
competition between CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs. The
ThunderWolves trail a daunting 14-0 in the competition, which
awards four points to the winners of the season series in each of
the nine intercollegiate sports the two schools share. Thus
far, UCCS has earned the season series in volleyball, women's
soccer and men's soccer, as well as winning in one head-to-head
battle in men's golf. Wednesday's meeting marked the only
meeting of the season in women's soccer, thus awarding all four
points for the sport to UCCS. The ThunderWolves must at least
win the remaining series in men's and women's basketball, softball,
and women's track to even the current score.
The ThunderWolves' loss marks their second straight game without
a goal, and their third shutout suffered in the past four
games. CSU-Pueblo will return home this weekend to host Adams
State Friday and Mesa State Sunday.
