Solomon Arnds-Volcin (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) went 4-2 for the wrestling team in their first outing of 2024 over two days in Gunnison.
Friday, at the Western Colorado Open, Arnds-Volcin went 3-1 and included one win by fall in the semifinal round of the 133-pound bracket. He pinned (5:55) Daniels Bendiks from Minot State and advance to the title match.
He earned two decision victories and ultimately lost by maj. decision (14-5) against Josh Palacio of Air Force.
The next day in a dual's against Findlay and Minot State, Arnds-Volcin went 1-1 and he picked up a 9-6 win by decision over Kale Farrington from MSU. He dropped a hard-fought 5-3 decision against Findlay's Kenny Snyder.
Up next, the wrestling team will have one week off before returning to the mats Jan. 20 at the UNK Younes Hospitality Duals in Kearney, Nebraska.
