Amaya Lewis (Jr., Hobbs, N.M.) averaged 10.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists for the Pack women's basketball team during a 2-0 week on the road at Black Hills State and Chadron State.
Saturday against BHSU, Lewis went 3-for-5 from the field and scored six points along with two rebounds, a pair of steals and added an assist in the Pack's 70-56 victory. The next afternoon at Chadron State, Lewis was instrumental in propelling the ThunderWolves to a 77-74 win in overtime against the Eagles.
In the final minutes of the game and the score tied at 74-74, Lewis threaded herself into the defense and intercepted the inbound pass and drove the ball down court, scoring a layup bucket with 6.7 seconds left on the clock.
Following a Pack free throw, a last second full-court shot by Chadron fell short in the ThunderWolves victory. CSU Pueblo's escape from upset marked its fourth-straight win and move the Pack to 18-5 overall and 14-3 in the RMAC.
This week both basketball teams are back at Massari Arena and host Westminster College on Friday and Western Colorado on Saturday. The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game to follow.
