Gavin Melendez (R-Jr., Los Banos, Calif.) finished 4-0 at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open in Golden, Colo.
At 149, Melendez needed four victories to claim the title. He dominated his way through the bracket with two major decisions, a technical fall and an 8-2 decision win.
He started with a 21-5 tech fall against a member of CSU and then won by an 8-2 decision against a wrestler from Chadron State College. His final two victories came by major decision, as he won 14-4 in the semifinal and 18-5 in the final against two unattached wrestlers.
Next for the Pack wrestling team is the NCAA Division II Super Region IV Championships, set for Feb. 29 in Kearney, Nebraska.
