Colorado native, Courtney Smith, enters her first season with CSU-Pueblo, as a graduate assistant with the women’s basketball program. Smith graduated from the University of Denver in June of 2019 with a bachelor's of arts in geography with an emphasis in sustainability.
While at the DU, Smith competed in one season with the Pioneers. Smith assisted in leading them to their first WNIT appearance, playing in 21 games and making 15 starts. With the Pioneers, Smith averaged 10.1 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. Smith sank 81.5 percent from the free throw line and 47.8 percent from the field.
Prior to DU Smith played at the University of Northern Colorado, where she holds the program records for field goal percentage in a game and field goal percentage in a season. The center set a school record with a 60.1 field goal percentage in 2016-17. Defensively, Smith blocked 1.32 shots per game in 2016-17, the fourth-highest total in program history. Smith has the three-highest single-game field goal percentages including a 12-for-12 showing March 3. With the Bears, Smith earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors and also earned Academic All-Big Sky accolades.
Smith graduated from Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colorado. During her high school career, she played Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis. Academically she was All-State her entire career. As a freshman, she helped the Lightning to the 5A state championship in 2012. Smith received All-State basketball honors in 2013, 2014, and 2015. She was on the All-Region team in 2014, 2015 and played in "The Show" Colorado's high school basketball all-star game.
