Miles Kochevar

In August of 2020, Miles Kochevar was named the defensive coordinator for the ThunderWolves. He is also in charge of the defensive backs.

Kochevar spent the 2019 season as an assistant coach at University of Northern Colorado. He worked with the defensive backs and helped lead the defensive strategy. Working with the defensive staff, Kochevar helped with the game plan, coordinated practice schedules, made in-game adjustments and assisted in player development. His recruiting areas included Colorado, California and Texas.

Prior to his stint at UNC, Kochevar was the defensive coordinator at West Texas A&M University under former CSU Pueblo defensive coordinator Hunter Hughes. He coached the 2017 and 2018 seasons and worked with the secondary. He helped the team earn a pair of Top 25 upsets in each season, defeating the then-No. 7 ThunderWolves in Canyon, Texas in 2017 and then-No. 14 Central Washington University in 2018. Six members of the defense earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades, as the team gathered two second team members and four honorable mention awards. As the leader of the defense, Kochevar created the defensive strategy and led, developed and managed all defensive staff and personnel. He also organized and administered all on campus football camps and was the Director of Community Service. His recruiting area was Colorado, California and Texas.

He arrived at WTAMU after two years as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Humboldt State University. In 2015 HSU ranked first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense. He coached the GNAC Defensive Lineman of the Year and the league's Newcomer of the Year, which was a safety out of his defensive backfield. Eight defensive players were named All-GNAC in 2015, a season where the Lumberjacks made their first appearance in the second round of the 2015 NCAA playoffs. A total of 10 players were named all-conference during his time as the defensive leader.

Kochevar was a defensive graduate assistant at Colorado State University where he coached safeties from 2012-14. Before coaching at CSU, he was at Colorado Mesa University for five seasons from 2007-11. He was the defensive backs coach and pass defense coordinator for the Mavericks. He also served as the special teams coordinator from 2009-2011.

He was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Colorado State and was a team captain his senior year in 2005 during which he led the team in tackles with 91. He was voted Most Valuable Player by the Rocky Mountain Collegian.

A native of Fruita, Colo., Kochevar earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State in liberal arts and owns a Masters of Education and Human Resources from CSU.
