Steve Serratore

Steve Serratore joined the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves in 2021 as Recruiting Coordinator and Hitting Coach, bringing with him a wealth of experience from nearly every level of college baseball. His journey has taken him through NCAA Division I stops at the U.S. Air Force Academy and Bowling Green State University, a powerhouse stint at NJCAA II Des Moines Area Community College, and a standout playing career at Kansas State University.

Since arriving in Pueblo, Serratore has helped reshape the ThunderWolves into one of the premier offensive teams in NCAA Division II, guiding record-setting lineups, climbing national rankings, and mentoring multiple All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Conference selections.

CSU Pueblo Coaching Highlights

2025 – Guided the Pack to their winningest season since 2015, powering one of the nation’s top offenses. CSU Pueblo ranked in the NCAA DII top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, doubles, and triples. The Pack’s .569 on-base percentage set a new program record, while their .355 batting average was the best since 2007. Five players earned All-RMAC honors, highlighted by Christian Castaneda and Noah Williams being named First Team All-Americans and All-Region. Kysen Howard also earned First Team All-Conference recognition, while Elijah Borjas and Wyatt Reginato collected Second Team All-Conference honors.

2024 – The ThunderWolves surged to No. 14 in the national rankings, their highest mark in nearly a decade. Three players earned All-RMAC honors, while the catching duo of Brady Ingalls and Cody Macias anchored the defense with the league’s best caught-stealing percentage and fewest passed balls.

2023 – CSU Pueblo finished 6th in the nation in batting average and doubles, and 10th in triples. The Pack’s 144 doubles were their most in 20 years. Three players earned All-RMAC recognition, while Reggie Williams ranked 2nd nationally in batting average en route to All-Region honors. Perfect Game tabbed the ThunderWolves’ recruiting class at No. 22 nationally in Division II.

2022 – In Serratore’s debut season, the Pack made immediate strides offensively, nearly doubling their home run total (30 to 53) and racking up 124 doubles. CSU Pueblo posted 27 wins, their most since 2018, and placed three players on the All-RMAC team.

Prior Coaching Experience

Before CSU Pueblo, Serratore spent two seasons at the U.S. Air Force Academy (NCAA I), where he oversaw hitters, catchers, scouting, and third base coaching duties. His impact was immediate — Air Force set a program record for conference wins and achieved its best winning percentage in nearly three decades, highlighted by marquee victories over top-10 LSU, Dallas Baptist, and College World Series participant Arizona.

At Air Force, Serratore mentored Paul Skenes — now the MLB No. 1 overall draft pick — who earned First Team All-America honors, Mountain West Freshman of the Year, and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist recognition after hitting .410 with 11 home runs. He also coached and developed Ashton Easley, who went on to sign with the Florida Marlins, and guided multiple Falcons who later heard their names called in the 2023 MLB Draft, including Sam Kulasingham (13th round, Kansas City Royals) and Jay Thomason (18th round, Minnesota Twins).

Earlier in his career, Serratore coached at Bowling Green State University (NCAA I), the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League, and Des Moines Area Community College (NJCAA II). At DMACC, his 2018 squad hit .322 with 48 home runs and 86 stolen bases, and he mentored standout Austin Murr — a Second Team NJCAA All-American who later went on to NC State and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 8th round.

Playing Career

Serratore began his career at Des Moines Area Community College, where he was a two-time All-Conference selection, before transferring to Kansas State University. As a Wildcat, he was named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team and earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. In 2017, he started all 49 games, hitting .292 while posting career highs across the board.

Personal

A Minnesota native, Serratore comes from a family deeply rooted in athletics. His uncles, Frank and Tom Serratore, are longtime NCAA Division I hockey head coaches at Air Force and Bemidji State, respectively.
