Steve Serratore was hired onto the CSU Pueblo baseball coaching staff in August 2021.
Serratore joined the Pack after two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach at the Air Force Academy.
In his two years at Air Force, Serratore assisted in offensive development, coached third base, led in developing the catchers, assisted in compiling scouting reports for upcoming opponents, and ran numerous camps.
During his time at Air Force, the Falcons had highest amount of conference wins in program history and the highest winning percentage in 27 years. Air Force topped LSU (a nationally ranked top 10 super regional team), won a series against another super regional team Dallas Baptist and defeated a top-10 University of Arizona squad that eventually moved onto the College World Series all while Serratore was present.
Serratore coach and mentored Paul Skenes at the Air Force academy as well. Skenes was a First team All-American, a Golden Spikes Semifinalist, the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, a First Team All-Conference (MW) member, and a member of the USA collegiate national team, all while batting for .410 average and hitting for 11 HR and 43 RBI. On top of Skenes, Serratore coached another All-Conference catcher who caught 35% of base-runners stealing to lead the Mountain West and Ashton Easily who signed with the Flordia Marlins as a free agent.
In the summer of 2019, Serratore was the hitting coach for the Mankato Moondogs, a Northwoods League collegiate summer team in Minnesota. There, he was the primary offensive coach and assisted in defensive development while also coaching first and third base. On top of his primary duties, he also assisted in the recruitment of the roster.
During the 2019 college season, Serratore was the volunteer assistant coach for the Bowling Green State University Falcons. There he held similar roles as a primary offensive developer and was in charge of defensive development for the catchers. He also coached first base and helped with the compiling of scouting reports for upcoming opponents.
From 2017-18, Serratore was the hitting coach at Des Moines Area Community College. As the primary hitting and catching coordinator, the team went 26-26 in 2018, while making a run to the conference tournament finals. As a team, the offense finished with a .322 batting average, including 96 doubles, 19 triples, 48 HRs, and 86 stolen bases.
As a player, Serratore began his career at DMACC, before transferring to Kansas State for his final three years of eligibility. While at DMACC, he was named First Team All-Conference in 2013. Then at K-State, Serratore was an All-Big 12 Defensive Team member at third base in 2015, and was then named to the Academic All-Conference First Team in 2016.
In his redshirt senior year at K-State in 2017, Serratore played in a career-high 49 games off 49 starts and carried a .292 average, .400 OBP, and .466 SLG. He set career highs in hits (52), triples (2), home runs (6) and RBIs (42). Serratore was second on the Wildcats' team in RBIs, two-out RBIs, and multi-RBI games (12).
While at K-State, Serratore was a member of the Leadership Academy which was a selected group of student-athletes from each athletic team. The Leadership Academy met and discussed how they could be better leaders for their programs and themselves. He also went with a group of student-athletes to Nicaragua and partnered with the Courts for Kids Organization to build a multipurpose court for a local community.
Serratore hails from Austin, Minn. and prepped at Rochester Mayo High School. He is the son of Joe and Kathy Serratore and has one sister, Sam. Two of his uncle’s are in the NCAA Ice Hockey coaching ranks. His Uncle Frank is at the Air Force Academy and his Uncle Tom is the head hockey coach at Bemidji State.
