Biography

2010 (At Colorado): Saw action in three games,off the bench in the season opener against Colorado State and atCalifornia, and then earned a start later in the year against TexasTech; he played 24 snaps against the Red Raiders before sufferingan ankle sprain that kept him off the Oklahoma trip the followingweek … He played a total of 51 plays from scrimmage for theyear, 45 grading out as "plus" ones to give him a season grade of88.2 percent; he graded out above 80 percent all three games andabove 90 twice, including a season best 92.3% against CSU …He had six knockdown/finishing blocks and did not allow aquarterback sack or pressure or get called for a penalty in hislimited action …  In spring conditioning tests, he hadthe best pro agility time (4.37) of all the offensive linemen.

2009 (at Colorado): Saw action in eight gamesat right offensive tackle, including seven starts (missed the othergames for assorted reasons) … He played 524 snaps fromscrimmage for the year (every play in six games), and graded out to80 percent or better in six games with a top grade of 89 percent atOklahoma State … He had 23 finishing/knockdown and twotouchdown blocks for the year, and allowed just one quarterbacksack … He played another 10 snaps on special teams (FG/PATunit) …  He was a first-team Freshman All-Big 12 teammember as selected by Rivals/Yahoo! Sports, and FoxSports.com(Scout.com) had named him to its preseason Redshirt FreshmanAll-America team … He added 30 pounds of muscle to his framebetween arriving on campus and his redshirt frosh season.

2008 (at Colorado) Redshirted ... Practiced atboth guard and tackle his entire freshman year.

High School: Was an outstanding player atMullen High School in Denver, Colo. … As a senior, he earnedAll-America honors from PrepStar and SuperPrep; PrepStar named himto its prestigious Dream Team, ranking him as the No. 126 player inthe nation (the 19th-ranked offensive lineman) … SuperPrepranked him the No. 9 player in the Midlands region, and as thesecond offensive lineman … The Tacoma News-Tribune named himto its Western 100 team (one of 20 offensive linemen), and wasnamed on five of seven ballots in making the prestigious Long BeachPress-Telegram''s Best-In-West Team … Rivals.com tabbed himas the No. 2 player in Colorado and the No. 12 offensive linemannationally, while Scout.com ranked him as the No. 3 performer inthe state and the 12th-ranked O-lineman in the nation …Locally, he was named All-Colorado (Denver Post, Rocky MountainNews), along with garnering first-team All-State and All-CentennialLeague honors … Following the season, he played in the U.S.Army All-American Game in San Antonio … A three-yearletterman, he was a team captain as a senior when he was named theschool''s Offensive MVP … Playing offensive tackle, herecorded 70 pancake blocks and allowed zero sacks on the season,while grading out to 96 percent overall (94 percent for run plays,98 percent for pass plays) … As a junior, he was namedhonorable mention All-State, first-team All-Conference andsecond-team All-Combine for the U.S. Army All-American Game… On the season, he had 80 pancake blocks and allowed zerosacks, while grading out to a 95 percent overall (93 run, 98 pass)… He did not play as a sophomore (health reasons) but stilllettered … His top game as a senior came in a 28-14 win overCherry Creek in which he recorded three touchdown blocks and sevenpancakes … As a junior, he had three touchdown blocks andtwo pancakes in a 41-38 win over Douglas County in the statesemifinal game; against Overland, he had two touchdown blocks and15 pancakes in a 49-7 win … Mullen went a combined 37-4 inGivens'' three years as a letterman: 12-1 in his senior season,advancing to the state semifinals; 13-1 his junior year, losing inthe state championship game; and 12-2 in his sophomore year, losingin the state championship game … He also lettered threetimes in track and field in throws (discus, shot put) … Heestablished a high school record in a unique sport, chess; he hasthe fastest checkmate in school history (3 minutes, 7 seconds)… Coached by former Buff Dave Logan …A two-timeAcademic All-State honoree during his junior and senior year… Also attended the National Young Leadership Conference andhas made several other leadership trips around the world …Graduated with a 3.6 GPA.

Personal: His father, Brian, played collegebaseball at Trinidad State (Colo.) Junior College and was draftedin 1984; he got the major leagues as a starting pitcher for theMilwaukee Brewers from 1995-96 … An uncle, Bruce Givens,played football for Idaho State in the late 1980s … Haslogged over 240 hours of community service … Completed workfor churches, traveled to Mexico to build a church and houses andhelped with a bike race raising money for cancer research …Enjoys going to concerts, fishing, weightlifting, building modelairplanes, bowling, skiing and golfing … Majoring inbusiness finance … Born August 2, 1989 in Denver,Colo.
