CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl Receives Major Upgrades Ahead of 2026 Season

PUEBLO, Colo. — Fans attending Colorado State University Pueblo football games this fall will experience several significant enhancements at the ThunderBowl, highlighted by the installation of a brand-new artificial turf playing surface and expanded premium fan amenities.

The ThunderWolves will replace the existing field turf this summer, with the new surface scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2026 football season, which begins on Thursday, August 27 at 6 p.m. against the University of Central Missouri. The Pack is scheduled to play six regular season home games during the 2026 season in the ThunderBowl.

The project is being supported by a $250,000 NFL Grassroots Turf Replacement Grant, a program that assists colleges and communities with replacing aging football fields. The remaining project costs will be funded through a partnership between CSU Pueblo Athletics and the CSU Pueblo Foundation.

The investment reflects the ThunderBowl's importance not only to ThunderWolves football, but also to the greater Pueblo community. In addition to serving as the home of CSU Pueblo football, the facility hosts numerous high school football games, youth camps, community events and other activities throughout the year.

According to the CSU Pueblo Foundation, "The ThunderBowl's impact on the Pueblo community is multifaceted, encompassing economic, social and environmental benefits. It has proven to boost the local economy through increased tourism, job creation and property value appreciation. The venue also fosters community pride and unity through shared experiences and a sense of belonging."

The new playing surface will be installed by Rocky Mountain Turf Solutions, a local company that has completed similar projects at several Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference institutions.

In addition to the new field, fans will have access to an upgraded premium game-day experience through the ThunderBowl's Rooftop Pods, located atop the Leomiti Warrior Center. Season and single-game packages are available and include stadium access two hours before kickoff, complimentary parking and an all-inclusive hospitality experience.

For more information or to reserve your VIP Rooftop Pod, please contact Todd Kelly, CSU Pueblo Foundation President/CEO at 719-549-2241 or email todd.kelly@csupueblo.edu.
