CANYON, Tex. (May 14, 2026) - The 7-seeded Colorado State University Pueblo softball team opened play in the NCAA South Central Regional on Thursday afternoon, falling 9-0 in five innings to second-seeded West Texas A&M at Schaeffer Park.
CSU Pueblo moves to 40-18 overall and will now await its next opponent in the elimination bracket.
Due to fires in the Canyon-Amarillo area and poor air quality concerns, Thursday's second contest between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State was postponed and rescheduled for Friday at noon. West Texas will then face the winner of that game at 2:30 p.m.
The ThunderWolves threatened early in the top of the first inning after senior
Caitlyn Cole (Merced, Calif.) singled to center and
Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) followed with a single to right center to put two runners aboard with one out. However, WTAMU starter Brooke Janning escaped the jam with a runner called out leaving early at second base before recording a strikeout to end the inning.
West Texas broke through in the bottom of the second inning, plating three runs on four hits. The Lady Buffs added another run in the third before pulling away with a five-run fourth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, a weather delayed the game for about 45 minutes before play resumed.
The ThunderWolves collected five hits in the loss, led by multi-hit performances from
Caitlyn Cole and Reimler.
Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) added a double, while
Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) also recorded a hit.
Senior pitcher
McKenna James (Windsor, Colo.) went the distance in the circle for CSU Pueblo, striking out five over four innings.
WTAMU pitchers Janning and Laci Peskey combined for the shutout, allowing five hits while striking out six.
The ThunderWolves will await official word on Friday's game time and opponent following the completion of the postponed contest. Stay tuned to all of CSU Pueblo Athletics social media accounts for the latest tournament updates.
