ThunderWolves Fall in Extra Innings to Texas A&M-Kingsville in NCAA Regional Elimination Game

CANYON, Tex. (May 15, 2026) - The season came to a heartbreaking end for the Colorado State University Pueblo softball team on Friday evening as the ThunderWolves dropped a 4-3 extra-inning decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville in an elimination game at teh NCAA South Central Regional.

The loss closes the season for CSU Pueblo with a 40-18 overall record after the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.

CSU Pueblo jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning after back-to-back singles from Darleen Falcon (Sr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Caitlyn Cole (Sr., Merced, Calif.). A two-out RBI single by Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) brought home Caitlyn Cole to give the Pack a 1-0 advantage.

The ThunderWolves added another run in the fourth inning when Huerta reached on an error before later scoring on an RBI sacrifice fly from McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.) to extend the lead to 2-0.

CSU Pueblo made it 3-0 in the fifth after Caitlyn Cole singled and eventually scored on an RBI double from her sister Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.).

James kept the Javelinas off the scoreboard through six innings, but TAMUK rallied in the bottom of the seventh. A three-run home run from Megan Geyer tied the game at 3-3 and forced extra innings.

After a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning, the Javelinas' Kennia Chong led off and hit a 2-1 pitch over the left field fench to give Texas A&M-Kingsville the 4-3 walk-off victory.

The ThunderWolves finished with nine hits in the contest, led by two-hit performances from Caitlyn Cole, Huerta and Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) . Huerta drove in a run and scored once, while Cali Cole added an RBI single.

James tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out two in 7.0 innings of work.
