Softball Extends Winning Streak To 14 Games, Sweeping Colorado Mesa At Home

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team delivered a statement weekend at the Rawlings Softball Complex, sweeping rival Colorado Mesa in dominant fashion to continue its surge atop the RMAC standings.

Even more impressively, the ThunderWolves extended their winning streak to 14 consecutive games—the longest in program history—surpassing the previous mark of 11. With the sweep, the Pack have also created significant separation in the conference race, now holding a six-game lead over third place in the RMAC.

Game 1: CSU Pueblo 4, Colorado Mesa 2

In the opening game of Friday's doubleheader, the ThunderWolves leaned on timely hitting and a composed effort in the circle from McKenna James to secure a 4-2 victory.

After three scoreless innings on both sides, CSU Pueblo broke through in the bottom of the fourth with a decisive four-run frame. The rally began with McKenna James reaching and swiping second before Darleen Falcon worked a walk to put pressure on the Mavericks' defense. Following a sacrifice bunt by Reese Reimler, the Pack capitalized.

Emma Case opened the scoring with an RBI single, and moments later, Taylor Brower delivered the biggest swing of the game—a bases-clearing double that plated three runs and gave CSU Pueblo a commanding 4-0 lead.

Colorado Mesa attempted to chip away late, getting a solo home run from Westmoreland in the sixth and adding another run in the seventh, but James remained steady in the circle. The junior right-hander went the distance, allowing just two runs—only one earned—on eight hits while striking out three to earn her 13th win of the season.

Despite being outhit 8-5, the ThunderWolves capitalized on their opportunities, delivering all four runs in one inning to take control of the game.

Game 2: CSU Pueblo 7, Colorado Mesa 1

If game one was about timely execution, game two was all about dominance.

After three scoreless innings, CSU Pueblo exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting together a five-run outburst that broke the game wide open. McKenna James and Darleen Falcon ignited the rally with back-to-back singles before Madelyn Huerta delivered a clutch two-RBI double to left center to give the Pack a 2-0 lead.

Emma Case followed with an RBI double of her own, and after aggressive baserunning and a Colorado Mesa error, CSU Pueblo extended the lead to 5-0 by the end of the inning.

The ThunderWolves added insurance in the sixth inning behind another key swing from Taylor Brower, who drove in two runs with a single down the left field line to push the advantage to 7-1.

Huerta led the offensive charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring twice and driving in two runs, while Brower added three RBIs and Case chipped in with an RBI double as part of a balanced attack that produced nine hits.

In the circle, Kayli Cooper was outstanding, tossing a complete-game three-hitter while allowing just one run and striking out six without issuing a walk. The sophomore was in control all afternoon, retiring hitters efficiently and keeping the Mavericks off balance from start to finish.

Series Sweep Statement

With the doubleheader sweep—and overall series sweep—the ThunderWolves continued to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the RMAC. CSU Pueblo improved to 27-11 overall and 23-5 in conference play, while Colorado Mesa dropped to 18-18 overall and 17-11 in RMAC action.

Across the two games, CSU Pueblo showcased a complete team effort—dominant pitching, clutch hitting, and aggressive baserunning. The Pack outscored the Mavericks 11-3 on the day, highlighted by two explosive innings that ultimately decided both contests.

With a program-record 14-game winning streak and a growing cushion in the RMAC standings, the ThunderWolves are not just winning—they are separating themselves as one of the premier teams in the conference heading into the stretch run.
