ALAMOSA, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo scored in six different innings and used a key late surge to claim a 10-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Adams State here Friday afternoon in the opening game of the weekend series at the ASU Baseball Field.
With the victory, the ThunderWolves improve to 22-21 overall and 14-11 in the league, while Adams State drops their 17th straight game, falling to 10-33 overall and 5-20 in the league. Friday's win also secured a spot in the 2026 RMAC Tournament for the Pack with seven games remaining in the regular season.
The Pack, who have now won nine of their last 11 games, grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning as junior third baseman
Jimmy Pelletier (Laval, Quebec/University of San Francisco) led off the frame with his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Adams State answered in the bottom half with a solo homer of its own from Josh Parks to tie the game, but the Pack responded with single runs in the third and fourth innings to move in front 3-1 thanks to an RBI ground out from sophomore first baseman
Tyler Clementz (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha) and an RBI ground out by senior second baseman
Devean Alvarez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Chaffey College) to take a 3-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, the Pack plated two more runs to take a 5-1 lead thanks to an RBI double by junior leftfielder
Cooper Latino (Parker, Colo./Douglas County) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior catcher
Jason Arriola (Riverside, Calif./Norco).
The Grizzlies, though, answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored four runs to even the score at 5-all. Three of the four runs came on a 3-run homer by Ryan Vandever, and the other run came on a Parks RBI single.
In the seventh, the Pack retook the lead on a 2-run homer by Latino and added three runs in the top of the eighth on a 2-run triple by senior rightfielder
Jeremiah Sanchez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) and an RBI single by Clementz to give the Pack a 10-5 lead.
ASU used three hits, two stolen bases from Christian Altamirano, and an RBI single by Ayden Tauscher to cut the Pack's lead to 10-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Latino led the ThunderWolves offense by going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI, while Clementz finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Sanchez scored twice and drove in two runs. Pelletier added a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with a homer and reached base three times in the win. For the game, the Pack recorded 10 hits and drew four walks.
On the mound, senior
Luke Ruby (Fort Collins, Colo./Resurrection Christian) worked 5.2 innings in the start, striking out five and scattering seven hits. Senior reliever
Alex Oliver (Grove, Okla./Coffeyville CC) earned the win in relief after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks to improve to 2-1 on the season, while junior
Jack Novak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) pitched the ninth for the Pack.
ASU, which also had 10 hits in the game, was paced offensively by a 3-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored and 2 RBI from Parks, while Osaias Hinojosa and Seth Reker each had two hits in the game.
Austin Delgado started on the mound for ASU and tossed four innings, and allowed four hits and three runs while walking two and striking out one. Julian Garza (0-4) took the loss as he tossed 2.2 innings and allowed four hits and four runs, while walking one and fanning two.
Both teams left seven runners on base, and the Grizzlies committed two errors to none for the Pack. The Pack pitchers did hit three batters, while ASU also hit three Pack hitters.
The two teams will continue the four-game RMAC series on Saturday, April 25, with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Alamosa.
