ThunderWolves Split Sunday Doubleheader Against Roadrunners

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 19, 2026) - Colorado State University Pueblo softball showcased defensive dominance and late-inning resilience on Sunday, earning a split in a competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) doubleheader against MSU Denver at Rawlings Softball Complex.

Game One: MSU Denver 0, CSU Pueblo 4
The opening game of the day was a pitching masterclass by McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.), who propelled the ThunderWolves to a 4-0 victory. James went the distance, tossing a complete-game shutout and allowing just five hits while striking out three.

Gissel Morales-Cermeno (Jr., Houston, Tex.) led the offense with a 2-for-2 day at the plate and an RBI. Five others recorded a hit including a three-RBI day from Taylor Brower (Sr., Vacaville, Calif.).

The Pack's offense scored two early runs in the second inning on a two-run single to shallow right from Brower with two outs and put the ThunderWolves ahead 2-0.

The pair of runs were all James needed as she was effective throughout the mid-innings and pitched out of a mini-jam in the third as the Roadrunners got a runner to scoring position but a ground out to third ended the threat.

The senior hurler allowed two hits over the final five frames to earn her 17th win of the season. It is the most wins for a CSU Pueblo pitcher since Justine Bosio in 2010.

The ThunderWolves doubled their lead in the sixth when Morales-Cermeno hit an RBI single through the left side and in the next at-bat, Brower hit an RBI ground out on the infield for a 4-0 advantage.

James walked the lead-off hitter in the seventh before retiring the next three hitters including the final two by strikeouts.

Game Two: MSU Denver 8, CSU Pueblo 6
In the series finale, the Pack scored the first run of the game in the first on a RBI single from James, the designated player in the game for an early 1-0 lead.

MSU Denver scored all of its runs in the middle innings and the Pack would add a single run in the third on a RBI single by Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.).

Entering the bottom of the sixth, the Roadrunners built an 8-2 advantage before the ThunderWolves' bats came alive. Reimler got the offense started with a solo shot to left field, her fifth of the season.

Later, Emma Case (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) singled in another run and Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) hit a sac fly to right field, scoring the fifth run of the game.
Trailing by three runs in the seventh, the Pack scored on a wild pitch and got the winning run to the plate before MSU Denver relief pitcher Kianna Butler struck out the side and earned the save.

Eva Miller-Sanchez (Fr., Denver, Colo.) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on three hits and striking out two in 2.0 innings of work.

Jaylah Rivera (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) came on in the third and tossed five innings and gave up three runs on eight hits with one strikeout.
