Woman's Tennis Wins Two Singles Matches in Road Setback to UT Dallas

Aebischer and Martinez Collected Wins at No. 1 and No. 2 Singles Against the Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team dropped a 5–2 decision to UT Dallas here Friday morning at the UTD Tennis Courts. The ThunderWolves fell to 0-9 on the season despite picking up a pair of singles victories in the match.

UT Dallas secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Mavericks opened with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and followed with a 6-1 victory at the top position before closing out doubles play with a 6-2 decision at No. 3.

After doubles play, the teams turned their focus to singles and the Pack used two strong performances in earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

At the No. 1 singles spot, senior Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College) battled through a tight match and prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker over UTD's Katia Robinson. Aebischer opened the match with a 7-6 win in the first set and then won 7-6 in the second set, before picking up a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker.

Freshman Fernanda Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/International School of Queretaro) picked up the Pack's other win at No. 2 singles as she defeated UTD's Presley Churchman in straight sets, winning the first set, 7-5 and then claiming a 6-2 win in the second set.

UT Dallas, though secured the match win by picking up wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

At No. 3 singles, senior Bella Hernandez (Rocklin, Calif./MSU Denver) fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 to Reika Nagai, while senior Laney Reddick (Sacramento, Calif./MSU Denver) fell to UTD's Namrata Makhija, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Junior Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maples Collegiate) fell 6-3, 6-1 to Sheryl Gerald at No. 5 singles and sophomore MaKayla Martinez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 6 singles to Kendall Curley.

The Pack will continue play at UT Dallas on Sunday, March 8 with neutral site matches at 8 a.m. MT against Southwest Baptist and at 11:30 a.m. MT against UT-Permian Basin.
