PUEBLO, Colo. (March 21, 2026) - It took extra innings and late-game heroics, but Colorado State University Pueblo softball delivered in dramatic fashion, sweeping Fort Lewis in a pair of 4-3 victories Saturday at Rawlings Softball Complex.
The ThunderWolves improved to 17-11 overall and 13-5 in RMAC play, using timely hitting and clutch pitching to secure both wins.
Game One: Fort Lewis 3, CSU Pueblo 4 (10 inn.)
The opener turned into a back-and-forth battle that required extra innings before CSU Pueblo found its breakthrough.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Pack chipped away, tying the game with single runs in the first and fourth. In the fourth, Caitlyn Cole (Sr., Merced, Calif.) sparked the offense with a single and aggressive baserunning, stealing both second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly.
In the circle, McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.) delivered a dominant outing, tossing all 10 innings while allowing just two earned runs and striking out 12 to keep the ThunderWolves within striking distance.
Fort Lewis briefly reclaimed the lead in the top of the 10th, but CSU Pueblo answered immediately. Caitlyn Cole doubled to put the tying run in scoring position before James helped her own cause with an RBI single to even the score. Moments later, Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) delivered the game-winner with a walk-off single to left center, sealing the 4-3 victory.
James improves to 8-7 on the season. Caitlyn Cole led the offense with three hits, while James added two hits and two RBI in a complete performance.
Game Two: Fort Lewis 3, CSU Pueblo 4
The nightcap followed a similar script—tight, tense, and decided in the final at-bat.
After four scoreless innings, CSU Pueblo broke through in the fifth when Caitlyn Cole launched a two-run home run to give the Pack a 2-0 advantage.
Behind her, Eva Miller-Sanchez (Fr., Denver, Colo.) was in control in the circle, holding Fort Lewis scoreless through six innings.
The Skyhawks made things interesting in the seventh, using a three-run homer to take a 3-2 lead. But once again, the ThunderWolves had the final say.
In the bottom half, Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) worked a key walk to set the stage for Cole, who delivered yet again, crushing her second home run of the game, a walk-off two-run shot to right field to complete the sweep.
Cole finished with four RBIs in the game, while Miller-Sanchez earned the win, her fourth of the year, after allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings.
