VISTA, Calif. - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team wrapped up competition Tuesday at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational, held at Shadow Ridge Country Club, finishing sixth overall in a challenging 13-team field.
Competing against a strong lineup of regional opponents, the ThunderWolves posted a three-round total of 61-over par after carding rounds of 314, 304, and 307 across the two-day tournament. CSU Pueblo showed improvement as the event progressed, playing 36 holes Monday before closing with 18 holes Tuesday, and the Pack's strong final two rounds helped them move up the leaderboard to secure key victories over several conference and regional competitors.
Tournament host Cal State San Marcos captured the team title at 17-over par, while Simon Fraser University placed second, finishing 18 strokes behind the Cougars.
Nationall ranked freshman Thale Victoria Estensen paced the ThunderWolves with an impressive performance, finishing tied for seventh overall. The Norwegian standout opened the tournament with an even-par 72 before following with rounds of 2-over 74 and 5-over 77 to remain among the top individuals throughout the event.
Olivia Heard delivered the second-best finish for CSU Pueblo, tying for 22nd place. The English golfer posted consistent rounds of 6-over, 4-over, and 4-over during the tournament.
Lisa Ekberg turned in one of the biggest rebounds of the week for the Pack. After opening the tournament with an 11-over 83, Ekberg responded with two strong rounds in the 70s, firing a 74 and 77 to finish tied for 34th overall.
Nationall ranked sophomore Yale Lee, another nationally ranked golfer for the ThunderWolves, placed tied for 52nd after recording rounds of 9-over, 8-over, and 12-over during the event.
Senior captain Freya Constable rounded out the scoring for CSU Pueblo. After battling through a difficult tournament, Constable closed with a gritty 77 in the final round to finish 58th overall.
The ThunderWolves will return to action March 22–23 when they host the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo at Walking Stick Golf Course.
