ThunderWolves Sweep Sunday Doubleheader to Secure Series Win Over Black Hills State

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 1, 2026) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team completed a successful weekend at the Rawlings Softball Complex, sweeping Sunday's doubleheader against Black Hills State to claim three-of-four games in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) series. With the two victories, the ThunderWolves improve to 9-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Game 1: Black Hills State 3, CSU Pueblo 9
In the third game of the series, the ThunderWolves offense exploded for 12 hits to back a strong complete-game performance from Eva Miller-Sanchez (Fr., Denver, Colo.).

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, CSU Pueblo responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by an RBI double from McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.) and an RBI single by Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.).

Gissel Morales-Cermeno (Jr., Houston, Tex.) was a force on the base paths, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and four stolen bases. Caitlyn Cole (Sr., Merced, Calif.) added two hits and two runs, while James and Darleen Falcon (Sr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) each contributed doubles.

The ThunderWolves broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, featuring RBI singles from Reimler and Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.), and a sacrifice fly by Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.).

In the circle, Miller-Sanchez earned the win, allowing just one earned run over 7.0 innings while striking out one.

Game 2: Black Hills State 2, CSU Pueblo 3
The series finale proved to be a defensive battle, with CSU Pueblo holding off a late Yellow Jacket rally to secure the Sunday sweep.

The game went scoreless until the third inning when Morales-Cermeno drove in a run with a sac fly, followed by an RBI single from James to give the Pack a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Cali Cole delivered an infield RBI single that scored Falcon, providing what proved to be the decisive third run.

Kayli Cooper (Jr., North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada) went the distance for the win, scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run. The defense was anchored by a critical double play in the fifth inning started by second baseman Morales-Cermeno.

Despite a seventh-inning unearned run by Black Hills State, Cooper induced a fly out to right field to end the game with the tying run on base.

Cooper improves her record to 2-1 on the season.

Up Next
CSU Pueblo will look to carry this momentum onto the road as they travel to face Regis University next week for another RMAC four-game series starting Saturday in Denver.
