PUEBLO, Colo. (February 7, 2026) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team dropped a pair of tightly contested games on Saturday during the Southern Colorado Crossover at the Rawlings Softball Complex. The ThunderWolves fell 2-1 to Pittsburg State in the morning before dropping a 5-4 decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville in the afternoon.
Game One: Pittsburg State 2, CSU Pueblo 1
In a classic pitcher's dual, the Pack managed just three hits against Pitt State starter Ava Laurent. CSU Pueblo's
McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.) pitched a complete game for the Pack, allowing only one earned run and striking out three in the loss.
CSU Pueblo took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) launched a solo home run to left field, her first of the season.
The lead held until the top of the seventh as James did tremendous throughout the middle innings and allowed the Gorillas two base runners thru four innings.
James pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth after a couple of walks and an error but James induced a ground out on the infield and kept the score at 1-0.
In the top of the seventh, Pitt State's Sailor Hall tied the game with a solo home run and the Gorillas then took the lead following a walk and a crucial error by the Pack defense. Despite getting a runner on in the bottom of the sixth, CSU Pueblo was sat down in order in the seventh to end the game.
James falls to 1-3 on the season.
Game Two: Texas A&M-Kingsville 5, CSU Pueblo 4
The afternoon finale was a back-and-forth affair that saw the ThunderWolves out-hit the Javelinas 10-9. CSU Pueblo jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI-double from
Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) and a sacrifice fly from
Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.).
Texas-Kingsville chipped away at the lead, scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. TAMKU took their first lead in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs on two hits and an error.
The Pack didn't go quietly in their final at-bat. Reimler delivered her second RBI-double of the game to cut the deficit to 5-4, but the Javelinas' Esther Martinez recorded a strikeout to end the threat with the tying run in scoring position.
In the circle,
Jaylah Rivera (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on six hits and allowed three walks.
Eva Miller-Sanchez (Fr., Denver, Colo.) takes the loss and falls to 0-1. She threw 1.2 innings and gave up two runs and two walks and struck out three.
