Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Matches on Saturday in Edmond

Pack Falls to Both Arkansas Tech and Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team concluded its three-match trip here Saturday by falling in a pair of dual matches at Broncho Courts, dropping 7-0 decisions to Arkansas Tech and Central Oklahoma.

The ThunderWolves, who are 0-8 on the season, opened the day against Arkansas Tech (3-1), where the Golden Suns secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The duo of senior Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College) and freshman Fernanda Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/International School of Queretaro) fell 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, while seniors Bella Hernandez (Rocklin, Calif./MSU Denver) and Laney Reddick (Sacramento, Calif./MSU Denver) dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Aebischer battled at No. 1 singles before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Monica Balau, while Martinez (No. 2), and Reddick (No. 4) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Elis Gergel and Rebecca Arnold, respectively.

Hernandez fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to Lucia Perez, and junior Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maples Collegiate) fell 6-0, 6-1 to Nayara Alvarez at No. 5 singles.

The Pack returned to the court later in the afternoon on Saturday against Central Oklahoma (4-1). The Bronchos once again claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Aebischer and Martinez dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Hernandez and Reddick fell 6-0 at the No. 2 position.

In singles action, Aebischer pushed through a competitive opening set at No. 1 singles before falling 6-0, 6-1 to 15th-ranked Pete Komada, while Martinez and Reddick fell by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to Karyna Yurchenko and Haley Hibbets, respectively.

Hernandez dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 3 singles to Hui Soo.

Travica highlighted the afternoon for the ThunderWolves at No. 5 singles, forcing a tiebreak in the first set before ultimately dropping a 7-6 decision after falling 7-6, 6-4 to Milana Quick.

The Pack returns to action next weekend (March 6-8) as they compete at the University of Dallas Invitational. The Pack will open the three-day event on Friday, March 6 at 3 p.m. MT against UT-Permian Basin, before facing Southwest Baptist on Saturday, March 7, at 8 a.m. MT and then concluding the weekend with an 11 a.m. MT match on Sunday, March 8, against UT Dallas.
