Softball Splits Saturday Twin Bill with Black Hills State

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 28, 2026) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team opened a four-game RMAC series with Black Hills State, earning a split on Saturday afternoon at Rawlings Softball Complex, taking game one, 6-2, before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.

With the split, CSU Pueblo moves to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in RMAC play.

Game 1: Black Hills State 2, CSU Pueblo 6
After surrendering an unearned run in the top of the first, the ThunderWolves responded in the second inning and never looked back.

A two-RBI double from Caitlyn Cole (Sr., Merced, Calif.) sparked a two-run frame, giving CSU Pueblo a 2-1 lead. The Pack broke things open in the fourth, plating four runs on four hits. Gissel Morales-Cermeno (Jr., Houston, Tex.) launched a two-run home run to deep center, and Cali Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) followed later in the inning with a two-RBI double to stretch the advantage to 6-1.

Morales-Cermeno finished with two RBI, while the Cole sisters each drove in a pair. Reese Reimler (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) added two hits in the win as the ThunderWolves totaled eight hits.

In the circle, current RMAC Pitcher of the Week, McKenna James (Sr., Windsor, Colo.) delivered a dominant complete game performance. She scattered five hits, allowed just one earned run and struck out 10 in seven inning to improve to 4-5 on the season.

BHSU added a solo home run in the seventh, but James closed the door to secure the win.

Game 2: Black Hills State 3, CSU Pueblo 2
The Yellow Jackets capitalized on early miscues to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring both runs unearned.

CSU Pueblo broke through in the fifth. Caitlyn Cole doubled to start the rally, and Reimler delivered the big swing with a two-run home run to left field, knotting the score at 2-2.

The ThunderWolves threatned again in the sixth after a Madelyn Huerta (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) double, but couldn't push across the go-ahead run.

In the seventh, Black Hills State used a leadoff error and an RBI single to plate the decisive run. Despite bringing the tying run aboard in the bottom half, CSU Pueblo was unable to complete the comeback.

Reimler drove in both runs for the Pack, while Caitlyn Cole reached base three times and scored once. Jaylah Rivera (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) tossed six strong innings in the start, allowing two unearned runs and striking out five.
