EDMOND, Okla. – The Colorado State University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision here Friday to Northeastern State at Edmond Center Court.
With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 0-6 in dual matches, while Northeastern State improves to 5-2 on the season.
The Riverhawks secured the double point, taking wins at No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The ThunderWolves' No. 1 team of senior
Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College) and freshman
Fernanda Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/International School of Queretaro) battled in a 6-4 setback to Daisy Barrow and Reneta Morales, while the No. 2 team of seniors
Bella Hernandez (Rocklin, Calif./MSU Denver) and
Laney Reddick (Sacramento, Calif./MSU Denver) fell 6-0 to NSU's tandem of Sofia Kotliarova and Lucia Bontempo. NSU won the No. 3 doubles match by default.
In singles play, the Pack won 11 games across the five matches that were played as the Riverhawks won at No. 6 by default.
Aebischer competed at No. 1 singles as she fell in two highly contested sets, 6-3, 6-2 to Morales, while Martinez fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 to Kotliarova.
Hernandez played at No. 3 and fell 6-0, 6-1 to Barrow and Reddick lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 to Laura Mertens.
Junior
Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maples Collegiate) competed at No. 5 singles and fell 6-2, 6-0 to Bontempo.
The Pack will continue its weekend trip to Edmond as they face Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. MT, before concluding the weekend with an 8 a.m. MT match on Sunday, March 1 against Arkansas Tech University.
