IRVINE, Calif. (February 1, 2026) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team concluded its weekend at the CUI Kickoff Classic on Sunday, falling 7-4 to host Concordia University Irvine.
Despite an early offensive surge and performance from
Caitlyn Cole (Sr., Merced, Calif.), the ThunderWolves (2-3) were unable to maintain their momentum after a pivotal five-run third inning by CUI.
GAME RECAP
CSU Pueblo wasted no time in getting on the board. In the top of the first Cole hit the first of her two triples on the day and scored shortly after to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. CUI (4-1) answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but the ThunderWolves surged back in the second. After
Belah Hrouda (Fr., St., Paul, Minn.) walked and
Emma Case (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) was hit by a pitch, Cole delivered another RBI triple. Second baseman
Gissel Morales-Cermeno (Jr., Houston, Tex.) followed with a two-run double to left-center, pushing the Pack ahead 4-1.
The lead held until the bottom of the third when the Golden Eagles capitalized on a five-run frame. The rally punctuated by a three-run home run that gave CUI a 6-4 advantage. The home team added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the final 7-4 margin.
