Women's Basketball Fights Tooth And Nail, But Eventually Drop Hard Fought Road Battle With Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball saw its second-half rally come up short on Thursday night, as the ThunderWolves fell 75–63 on the road to Adams State University inside Plachy Hall in Alamosa.

The ThunderWolves showed resilience after trailing by double digits for much of the contest, repeatedly answering Adams State runs and cutting the deficit to single digits in the second half, but were unable to fully close the gap against a physical Grizzlies squad.

CSU Pueblo opened the game with early energy and briefly took a 2–0 lead, but Adams State quickly found its rhythm and seized control behind an up-tempo transition attack. The Grizzlies built a 17–11 advantage after the opening quarter and continued to pressure the ThunderWolves defensively, extending the lead to 36–25 by halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, the Pack responded with urgency. CSU Pueblo matched Adams State point-for-point in the third quarter, knocking down timely shots and generating defensive stops to keep the game within reach. The ThunderWolves closed the quarter strong, trimming the deficit and carrying momentum into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, CSU Pueblo continued to throw haymakers. The ThunderWolves cut the lead to as close as seven points with just four minutes remaining, trading baskets with the Grizzlies and refusing to go away. Each time Adams State answered, the Pack responded, attacking the paint, getting to the free-throw line, and forcing turnovers in a gritty back-and-forth stretch that kept the pressure on until the final horn.

Seneya Martinez led the ThunderWolves with 15 points while adding three assists. Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck and Genesis Sweetwine each finished with 14 points, while Dasani Nesbit turned in a strong all-around performance, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds and making key defensive plays.

As a team, CSU Pueblo totaled 39 rebounds and forced 17 turnovers, converting those opportunities into transition scoring. The ThunderWolves found success attacking the paint but struggled from long range, shooting 18.5 percent from three-point range.

With the loss, Colorado State University Pueblo moves to 9–8 overall and 5–4 in RMAC play. The Pack will look to bounce back quickly on Saturday, heading south down I-25 to Las Vegas, New Mexico, to take on a gritty New Mexico Highlands squad in a noon tip-off as conference play continues.
