ALPINE, Tex. (Sept. 6, 2025) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Sul Ross State 2-0 at Lobo Field.
The ThunderWolves (1-0-1) controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting the Lobos 16-7 and holding an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Abby Menk (Jr., Delano, Minn.) put CSU Pueblo on the board in the 37th minute, netting her first goal of the season to give the Pack a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half,
Caytlynn Garland (Jr., Gillette, Wyo.) extended the advantage in the 74th minute, finishing off a pass fromÂ
Mackenzie Fryxell (Jr., Corona, Calif.) to make it 2-0. The assist marked Fryxell's first of the season.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper
Miya Begay (Fr., West Valley City, Utah) was stellar, making three saves to secure her first shutout of her career. The Pack back line, anchored by Garland and
Samara Sanders (Fr., Dallas, Tex.), limited Sul Ross State to just one shot in the first half.
The Lobos were shown two cards in the second half, including a red card in the 75th minute, which allowed CSU Pueblo to close out the match with momentum.
CSU Pueblo will continue its Texas road trip Monday with a nonconference match at Lubbock Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (MT).
