ODESSA, Tex. (Sep. 4, 2025) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team began its 2025 campaign with a defensive contested 0-0 draw against University of Texas Permian Basin on Thursday evening at UTPB Soccer Field.
The ThunderWolves (0-0-1) held strong defensively throughout the 90 minutes, anchored by goalkeeper
Alva Hellenius (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden), who finished with one save while recording the clean sheer in her collegiate debut.
Offensively, CSU Pueblo generated 11 total shots, including four on goal.
Carlia Johnson (R-Sr., The Valley, Anguilla) led the attack with a game-high five shots, including three of which tested the UTPB goalkeeper.
Jenna Elledge (Fr., Farmington, NM) added two shots, including one on target, while
Samara Sanders (Fr., Dallas, Tex.) and
Mara Ganje (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) each registered attempts to push the Pack forward.
Despite the opportunitites, UTPB's goalkeeper Valeria Delgado stopped all four shots on target to preserve the draw. The Falcons matched CSU Pueblo's intensity, recording 10 shots and nine corner kicks, compared to the Pack's 11 shots and two corners.
The defensive back line, featuring
Paula Walker (Fr., Pearland, Tex.),
Mackenzie Fryxell (Jr., Corona, Calif.) and
Caytlynn Garland (Jr., Gillette, Wyo.), held firm against consistent pressure, limiting the Falcons to just one shots on goal across the match.
CSU Pueblo will return to action on Saturday, Sep. 6, continuing its road trip in Texas with a nonconference match against Sul Ross State. Kickoff is slated for 10 a.m. (MT) in Alpine, Tex.
