ThunderWolves edge No. 5 Fort Lewis in regional showdown, stay unbeaten

PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 28, 2025) — The No. 8-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team delivered a statement win on Sunday afternoon at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium, defeating No. 5 Fort Lewis 2-1 in a top-10 regional battle. With the victory, the ThunderWolves improve to 4-0-4 overall and remain unbeaten through their first eight matches of the season.

CSU Pueblo got off to a quick start when Will Boyle (R-Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) netted his third goal of the year in the 11th minute, finishing a setup from Nick Cenek (Gr., Peoria, Ill.) The early strike gave the Pack momentum and a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Cenek doubled the ThunderWolves' advantage in the 73rd minute with his third goal of the season. Despite going down a man after a red card minutes later, CSU Pueblo held strong.

Fort Lewis pulled one back in the 82nd minute off the foot of Mathias Valverde, but goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez (Jr., Brussels, Belgium) came up clutch down the stretch, recording six saves including a penalty stop in the 78th minute to secure the win.

Coach Comments:
Head coach Nick Blackwell praised the team's resilience, "Extremely proud of my group today. Even when things are going against us, we showed our resiliency and grit as a group to get the result we wanted. We stepped up in the big moments and when we went down to 10 men, we stayed together and closed out the match. Complete team effort today"

He added, "Going undefeated through nonconference is a great milestone to build off as we head into RMAC play Thursday against a very good Westminster side."
