PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 13, 2025) - The No. 3 CSU Pueblo men's soccer team extended its unbeaten start to the 2025 season with a 2-0 victory over Dominican (CA) on Saturday afternoon at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Midfielder
Matty Parkes (So., Newcastle, England) provided all the scoring for the ThunderWolves, finding the net once in each half to deliver the Pack their second win of the year.
Parkes broke through in the 30th minute when he connected on a strike assisted by
Leonardo Vilchis (Gr., Mexico City, Mexico) to give CSU Pueblo a 1-0 advantage at halftime. Early in the second half, Parkes struck again, finishing a build-up play with helpers from
Logan Cozier (R-So., Pickering, Ontario, Canada) and
Brandon Sanchez (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) in the 52nd minute.
The ThunderWolves' defensive unit turned in another dominant performance, limiting Dominican to just two shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Esteban Gonzalez (Jr., Brussels, Belgium) made two saves to secure the shutout, and the Pack notched their fourth consecutive clean sheet to open the year.
CSU Pueblo outshot Dominican 11-10 overall and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Coach Comments
"Excellent performance at home today from the lads, said Pack Head Coach
Nick Blackwell. "The second match of the weekend is always a challenge and today showed our depth with the ability to bring players on to change the game. Really happy for Matty to grab two goals, he's been excellent since the spring season and love seeing him get the reward. Fourth clean sheet in a row is very important to us and ready to get back to training on Monday."
With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 2-0-2 overall, while Dominican falls to 1-3-0.
Up next, CSU Pueblo heads west for a two-match road trip, visiting Western Oregon on Thursday before taking on Saint Martin's on Saturday in Monmouth, Oregon.
