DENVER, Colo. - The Third-Annual Sam Batey Sr. Legacy Golf Tournament (or the Developing Champions Golf Tournament) at Denver City Park Golf Course, which was held on Friday, July 25, 2025, continues to provide endowment funds for Colorado State University Pueblo student-athletes named in honor of the 2012 Pack Athletics Hall of Famer.

With the Colorado capital city skyline and the mountains of the Centennial State in the background, the morning event concluded with junior men's basketball guard Dylan Sanders (Aurora, Colo./Pearl River CC) being named the recipient of the Sam Batey Sr. Legacy Scholarship at an afternoon luncheon following the conclusion of the golf tournament.

With the passing of Batey in mid-July 2021, his family of Barbara and children Sam Jr. and Dana, created the endowed scholarship in Sam's name with the recipient being chosen from a candidate pool of student-athletes at CSU Pueblo who are from the Denver metro area and compete in basketball, golf, lacrosse, or tennis.

CSU Pueblo Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships Dr. Paul Plinske and first-year head men's basketball coach Zach Ruebesam presented the Sam Batey Sr. Legacy Scholarship to Sanders on Friday afternoon.

Sanders is the second CSU Pueblo student-athlete to receive the Sam Batey Sr. Legacy Scholarship, as former three-time All-American women's basketball player Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./University of Northern Colorado) had received the scholarship the past two years.

Sanders enters his first season with the Pack in 2025-26 after playing at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College during the 2024-25 season. In his lone season at Pearl River, Sanders played in all 31 games and made 30 starts and averaged 10.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, and led the team in made 3-pointers with 68. He shot nearly 36 percent from the 3-point line last season.

He finished the 2024-25 campaign scoring in double figures in 16 games and recorded two double-doubles on the year. He helped lead the Wildcats to an 11-3 conference record and an appearance in the Regional Championship game.

Before playing at Pearl River, Sanders, who graduated from Colorado Prep Academy in 2022, began his collegiate career at Odessa (Texas) College. After redshirting in 2022-23, Sanders played in 35 games during the 2023-24 season and averaged 5.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He shot 39.7 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from the 3-point line and tallied double digits in five games.

Sanders, who carried a 4.0 GPA in the classroom during his high school career, is the son of Sharisse and Zachary Sanders and is expected to major in Sports Medicine at CSU Pueblo.
